Ray Xaverius Lee, a 23-year-old college student, was playing a game in his small apartment in the city of Detroit. He was busy jockeying for one of the players who suddenly decided not to continue the practice match. So Ray replaced the account of the player who was actually an international athlete.
“Taylor. I’m on offense, you’re in the box, Buddy!” Ray said.
“Hey, who was the leader? Shoot you, Damon! Oh, wait. What? Damon, is that you?” The other players suddenly realized that it wasn’t their team.
“Ah, shut up, shut up… I’m in the lead because I’m closer!” Ray didn’t care if he was considered the player in question. That his voice was definitely not the same as that of an actual player. He was just filling in when the team was missing a player.
When the game ended, Ray’s team had won the game. But just seconds later, his computer stopped working and the screen went black. It changed to a video with random images and dramatic sounds and for the first few seconds, the man was stunned.
Suddenly, Ray found himself unable to move, his eyes fixed on the screen. At the last second of the video he was watching, his cell phone suddenly rang and snapped him out of it.
Wayne, the caller, was his best friend and his lab partner on campus. Ray, who seemed uninterested in answering the call, deliberately ignored it. Until the call stopped
About 15 minutes later, the next call became even more frightening for Ray, when another one of his female friends called. Ray muttered to himself, “Yow, cricket lady, what’s up ….”
“What made you call me… ,the beautiful angel from ….”
Natalie immediately cut Ray off. “What. Death? Yeah, you’re really dead, you idiot.”
“Okay, I’m kidding. Is there anything I can help you with…, ma’am?” The man replied.
“Oh, just make sure you’re alive then…! Okay, shut up! Wayne just called you, I was surprised that he noticed me about your thesis. You two are so… annoying! Just for one day, can you guys not keep bothering me, you lazy bastards! Find him, now!” said Natalie.
“Um… Calm down… take a breath… and hold it until tomorrow.” Ray acted flatly as if he didn’t care.
“Are you kidding me?” Natalie started to get angry.
“No, I’m listening. Natalie, hey, I just took a shower and I’m coming over. Seriously!” Ray tried to reassure Natalie at that point.
“We’ll see. Now go to the principal secretary! Professor Hakata will be replaced by Ms. Qiwara, and you have to be there! I want to know if you can graduate next year!” Actually, Ray was calmer, but the woman’s voice sounded like crickets to Ray.
“They didn’t text me, Nat! I swear to God!” Ray started to panic.
“Are you out of your mind? Look, the professor might have something planned for you and there’s no time to talk nonsense like this. Get up and pack, now! Bring all your files and discuss your thesis.” Natalie sighed deeply. “I don’t know why I’m doing this…, you’re a waste.”
“Shit! Calm down, okay. So, you should wait for me there and we’ll meet about half an hour later, agreed? I’ll go there with you and we’ll meet them.”
“Now I understand. Let me guess, I could tell you weren’t ready.” The girl knew Ray had lied.
“I’ll kiss you later! Eat that…!”
“Eww, please!” Natalie said with a disgusted intonation.
Ray looked back at the screen. He saw that the screen had returned to the game that had just ended. “Damn, what was that…,” Ray muttered.
Ray immediately shut down his computer and got up from his seat and went to the bathroom.
While washing his face, he rubbed his cheeks gently and looked at his own face in the mirror for a moment. He didn’t know what he was thinking after watching the video his mind felt blank, but a few seconds later he shook his head and looked back at himself.
“You look great, Ray. As always.” With a finger forming a gun and a shooting motion towards the mirror.
Ray hurriedly made his way to campus to meet Natalie who would escort him to the lecturer’s office.
During his hour-long discussion with Ms. Qiwara, Ray found himself disappointed when Ms. Qiwara informed him that Professor Hakata had decided to leave without any message for Ray’s thesis progress.
Ray was stunned by the information he was given. He walked unenthusedly out of the room, and no longer hoped for his graduation.
Ray, the tall, thin man walked out of the room. He found Natalie still waiting for him behind the wall next to the open door. Ray was silent, not wanting to say hello or discuss what had happened in the room, he didn’t want to be disturbed at all, and walked quickly.
So he hurried back to his apartment and also hoped not to run into Wayne who would surely ask why Ray never answered his phone.
Ray’s body began to feel weak, the sun weakening him as he rarely went outside. Carefully he made his way down the hallway of his apartment now, his face looking even paler, compounded by his lack of sleep the previous few days.
His vision was slightly blurred as he turned the door knob to his room. However, having just stepped inside, her knee fell to the floor. Ray collapsed face down on his computer.
At that moment, a strange thing happened. Because the monitor screen, which had been turned off before, was now in a position to turn itself back on.
The next odd thing was that the monitor screen now displayed a line of words that eventually formed a sentence …
‘A hero has been found’
